We got hitched!

|

We did it. We took the plunge, got hitched, tied the knot, took our vows, you know, got married this past May 24th!

Johannes had proposed to me in Jamaica two months ago and we decided to get married as soon as possible. Everything went so fast and we had a nice ceremony with some close friends and family in his mom's house in the Vermont countryside. It was really sweet.

Anyway, here I'm wearing a vintage 60's dress, and a head piece from etsy. Johannes was gorgeous with his new CK suit. The day started rainy but 20 min before the ceremony the sun appeared. Everything was so perfect and we just want to say thank you to everybody that in some way helped this wonderful moment happen.

We'll be planning a bigger ceremony in Brazil on the beach, and important people like my parents will be there and we hope to see you all there.

Thanks a lot!

Tying the Knot

|

I recently proposed to Manu, whom I have been dating since I returned to the US.  We were on a Jamaican vacation, sitting on the westernmost point on the island, watching the sun set into the Caribbean, and I asked her to be my wife.  Dolphins frolicked, wizened poets brought us coconuts, and sexagenarian middle American couples blazed their spliffs.  In other words, it was magical.

Manu makes me happier than anyone I've ever been with before in my life, and I'm pleased to report that she didn't turn me down.

We are going to get legally married on May 24th, 2009 at 1:00pm at my mother's house in Norwich, Vermont.  We will have a second and more formal ceremony on May 22nd, 2010 in Fortaleza, Brazil with Manu's family and friends.

Jamaica

|

Jamaica is exciting, beautiful, colorful and an unpredictable place. We loved the time there and we had so much fun. We also got engaged there.
We spent 6 wonderful days there and we stayed in two different hotels, the first three days in Montego Bay at Royal Decameron (an all-included resort), this resort had amazing view of the ocean (which our room faced), a gorgeous beach, and all the fried food and frozen daiquiri's we could handle. After that we went to the Rock Rouse Hotel in Negril which is paradise. No words can explain this hotel and the great sunsets that we saw there (the hotel is on the westernmost point of the island).

In order to better understand the Jamaican style a Jamaican expatriate in DC once told me the story of a village fisherman who was visited one day by a stranger. The stranger told him that he could help him expand his business-that in five years he could have ten boats, and in ten years he could sell his business and retire. He would have to work long and hard to build his fishing business into this empire, but its fruits would be plentiful. The fisherman responded simply, "Why would I want to do that, mon? I fish when I want to, sit around all day, smoke ganja and laugh with my friends. I already feel like I'm retired!" :)
